We all know Shakira for her amazing capacity as an artist, composer and interpreter of her own songs and talented dancer….Shakira is an extraordinary woman, out of the ordaniry. She proves her deep inteligence not only in the way she handles her life and career but also through her sensitivity on the needs of the children that have nothing. She is deeply interested in raising the awareness in early education of children and that it is the key to achive peace in the world and improve local economies. She is starting with her home country, Colombia, following with rest of South America and so forth till she gets the attention of the whole world. This is a video that Madou, an alchemical reader of our blog, shared with us. You can hear and see Shakira present her foundation, Barefoot Foundation at Oxford University’s world-famous Oxford Union. There is nothing else to add, but to insist you see it till the end, it’s worth your time.

March 8th is the international day of women. We though we could take these previous days that are also a weekend to think on our condition of living the life that each one have in turn in the most creative way possible. These words were written by Regina Brett of 50 years 0old in “The Plain Dealer”. Cleveland Ohio. She was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in 2009.This is the comment of the committee: ”…for her range of compelling columns that move the heart, challenge authority and often trigger action while giving readers deeper insight into life’s challenges.” 2009 Pulitzer Prize Committee.
The most incredible of all is that there is an email circulating, where it says that Regina Brett is 90 years old and that these words were written to “celebrate reaching this old age y wrote this thoughts that life tought me.” It is more than interesting to me that she had to include in her web site that she is not 90 but 50 years old. Is it that we women can’t accept a woman,, young, and witha harmonic aspect, to avoid the word beautiful, so loaded of prejudices, is also wise. If we can’t accept the union of youth, beauty and wisdom in others how are we going to accept it in us. Let’s jump our prejudices to be beautiful and wise before we are 90! To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.
It is the most-requested column I’ve ever written. My odometer rolls over to 50 this week, so here’s an update:
1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don’t have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
8. It’s OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won’t screw up the present.
12. It’s OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don’t compare your life to others’. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry; God never blinks.
16. Life is too short for long pity parties. Get busy living, or get busy dying.
17. You can get through anything if you stay put in today.
18. A writer writes. If you want to be a writer, write.
19. It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don’t take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don’t save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Overprepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don’t wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: “In five years, will this matter?”
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn’t do.
35. Whatever doesn’t kill you really does make you stronger.
36. Growing old beats the alternative – dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood. Make it memorable.
38. Read the Psalms. They cover every human emotion.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else’s, we’d grab ours back.
41. Don’t audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
42. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
43. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
44. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
45. The best is yet to come.
46. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
47. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
48. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
49. Yield.
50. Life isn’t tied with a bow, but it’s still a gift.

El 8 de marzo es el día internacional de la mujer. Se nos ocurrió tomar estos días previos que además cae un fin de semana para pensar en nuestra condición de mujeres viviendo la vida que nos toca a cada una lo más creativamente posible. Estas palabras fueron escritas por Regina Brett de 50 años, en “The Plain Dealer”, Cleveland, Ohio. Fue nominada para el premio Pulitzer en 2009. Este es el comentario del comité: “… por el rango de sus columnas de peso que mueven el corazón, desafían a la autoridad y con frecuencia llevan a la acción, mientras que da a los lectores una visión profunda de los desafíos de la vida. ” 2009 Pulitzer Prize Committee.
Lo mas increíble de todo es que circula un mail, donde se dice que Regina Brett tiene 90 años y que estas reflexiones fueron escritas ” para celebrar la llegada a mi edad avanzada escribí unas lecciones que me ha enseñado la vida.” Nos resulta más que interesante, que ella haya tenido que incluir en su sitio web, que no tiene 90 años sino 50. Será que nosotras las mujeres no podemos aceptar a una mujer, joven, de aspecto armonioso, para no usar la palabra linda, tan cargada de prejuicios, sea además sabia. Si no podemos aceptar la unión de la juventud y la belleza unida a la sabiduría en otros como vamos a poder aceptarlas en nosotras. Saltemos nuestros prejuicios para ser bellas y sabias antes de los 90! Aca van sus sabias palabras.

Para celebrar envejecer, una vez escribí estas lecciones que la vida me enseño.
Es la columna más requerida que jamás haya escrito. Mi medidor llega a 50 esta seman, asi que aca van:
1- La vida no es justa, pero aún así es buena.
2- La vida es demasiada corta para perder el tiempo odiando a alguien.
3- Tu trabajo no te cuidará cuando estés enfermo. Tus amigos y familia
sí. Mantente en contacto.
4- No tienes que ganar cada discusión. Debes estar de acuerdo en no
estar de acuerdo.
5- Llora con alguien. Alivia más que llorar solo.
6- Cuando se trata de chocolate, la resistencia es inútil.
7- Haz las paces con tu pasado para que no arruine el presente.
8- No compares tu vida con la de otros. No tienes ni idea de cómo es
su travesía.
9- Si una relación tiene que ser secreta, mejor no tenerla.
10- Respira profundamente. Eso calma la mente.
11- Elimina todo lo que no sea útil, hermoso o alegre.
12- Lo que no te mata, en realidad te hace más fuerte.
13- Nunca es demasiado tarde para tener una niñez feliz. Pero la segunda
sólo depende de ti.
14- Cuando se trata de perseguir aquello que amas en la vida, no aceptes
un “no” por respuesta.
15- Enciende las velas, utiliza las sábanas bonitas, ponte la lencería
cara. No la guardes para una ocasión especial. Hoy es especial.
16- Sé excéntrico ahora. No esperes a ser viejo para serlo.
17- El órgano sexual más importante es el cerebro.
18- Nadie es renponsable de tu felicidad, sólo tú.
19- Enmarca todo supuesto “desastre” con estas palabras: ”En cinco
años, ¿esto importará?”
20- Perdónales todo a todos.
21- Lo que las otras personas piensen de ti, no te incumbe.
22- El tiempo sana casi todo. Dale tiempo al tiempo.
23- Por más buena o mala que sea una situación, algún día cambiará.
24- No te tomes tan en serio. Nadie más lo hace.
25- No cuestiones la vida. Sólo vívela y aprovéchala al máximo hoy.
26- Llegar a viejo es mejor que la alternativa…..morir joven.
27- Todo lo que verdaderamente importa al final es que hayas amado.
28- Sal todos los días. Los milagros están esperando en todas partes.
29- Si juntáramos nuestros problemas y viéramos los montones de los
demás, querríamos los nuestros.
30- La envidia es una pérdida de tiempo. Tú ya tienes todo lo que
necesitas.
31- No importa cómo te sientas… arréglate y preséntate.
32- Cede.
33- La vida no está envuelta con un lazo pero sigue siendo un regalo.
